Learn More About DVD Editing

Advances in film and video technology – both in terms of the hardware and software – have been truly phenomenal in the last few years. DVD video cameras are almost ubiquitous nowadays, and have a resolution that is comparable to film cameras. On the other hand, adding special effects has become so easy and inexpensive that anyone with a home computer can do it. Unfortunately, however, the interface between the hardware and the software is still difficult and problematic. Finding and learning how to use the right DVD editing software is as hard as ever, and it shows no signs of becoming easy.

One of the problems is the wide variety of DVD edit software. At the center of it, there is the Apple/IBM Divide. Back in the day, anyone who wanted to do a DVD editor applications would buy a Macintosh. They were far above the IBM's, and all of the good DVD editing software was made for them.

Nowadays, however, it is not so clear-cut. Although they still have a certain lead in media applications, Apple's no longer have the market dominance that they used to. For a while, DVD editing – along with other applications – was shared between Apples and IBM's. Many of the programs were compatible, and it began to seem like one day people would be able to switch from one format to the other with ease. Nowadays, however, you have to choose one standard or the other for DVD editing. There is no clear choice anymore, and editing DVDs is no easier than in the old days.

This is a real problem for amateur filmmakers. Many of my friends use any editing DVD software programs that they can get ahold of. They may have their own camera and some of the programs on their computer, and have to use other programs on a friends computer. Unless everyone uses the same DVD editing equipment, things can be very difficult. Even different editions of the DVD editing software are not always compatible.  Basically, unless you are willing to choose one standard right off the bat and stick with it, you should be prepared for a headache.

The only good news is that DVD editing continues to get cheaper and faster. The DVD editing software is not much easier to use than before, but it has gotten to the point where even the more backwards varieties are good enough for most applications. This means that, until you know how to choose, almost any choice in dvd software will work.
